Atlanta Chapter: 2024 Annual Lechon
After careful observation of the path of Hurricane Helene, the Atlanta Chapter was overjoyed to be able to host the Annual Lechon family event. Approximately 20 families attended the event with over 60 people in total attending. We were blessed with great weather, most notably that comfortable Atlanta fall temperature. The event was once again held at the Olde Atlanta Clubhouse, and we are grateful to José and Alina Battle for coordinating the use of the Clubhouse and generously hosting the gathering.
As is done every year, a handful of the students from the Georgia Tech student group were present to roast the pig and assist in setting up and cleaning up. They were joined this year, as in the past few years, with students from the University of Miami student group. We are grateful to Ray and Natalie Cacicedo for coordinating and traveling with the students, as well as to Gerry Portela, who accompanied them. The students were directed by Congregante Lorenzo Leon, who has mastered the art of pig roasting. As was done last year we united with Congregante Ramiro Rodriguez and the students from the TAMU ACU group via Zoom to share the camaraderie. The students from the various groups were able to get to know one another.
Thankfully, our Director, Fr. Jorge Luis Rojas, S.J., was in attendance and offered daily Mass for the group. Fr. Rojas was joined by Dr. Manny Anton, the National President, and Erik Vieira, the Pastoral Administrator.
During Mass, a new freshman of the Georgia Tech student group, Marcos Garcia read the first reading, and Congregante Neyton Baltodano read the Responsorial Psalm.
During his homily, Fr. Rojas challenged the Agrupados to collaborate with one another across Chapters to strengthen their bonds in the one spirit of El Jefe y Maestro. It is through this collaboration that the ACU will grow as one community. He also challenged Agrupados to work together in a spirit of gratitude for the numerous graces the ACU has received over the years. These graces extended into our marriages, families, and friendship, and we should remain aware of the font of these graces.
Manny Anton built on this message noting the various formation groups that are ongoing. Miami maintains the growth of the UM student group, and recently launched the student group at FIU. Miami also maintains a monthly men's group meeting at the University of Florida in collaboration with the Catholic Gators Campus Ministry program. Miami leadership has collaborated with the Atlanta Chapter to assist in recruiting Belen graduates that attend Georgia Tech. Similarly, the Washington, D.C. Chapter formally launched the CUA student group for a second consecutive academic year. We continue to collaborate with Ramiro Rodriguez to support the student group from Texas A&M University.
The food and drinks were abundant, thanks to the dedication of numerous volunteers. A variety of traditional Cuban dishes were served, including rice, beans, yuca, salad, and bread. All of it was followed by some traditional Cuban desserts including flan and homemade masa real de guayaba. As always, the lechón was exceptional, and special thanks were given to Chelo for the mojo, Gorka for the Caja China, and Lorenzo and the young individuals who expertly roasted the pig.
The success of the event was also attributed to the hardworking volunteers who tirelessly prepared, set up, organized, and later cleaned up the venue.

Capítulo de Atlanta: Lechón anual 2024
Después de observar cuidadosamente la trayectoria del huracán Helene, el Capítulo de Atlanta estaba encantado de poder organizar el evento familiar anual del Lechón. Aproximadamente 20 familias asistieron al evento y más de 60 personas asistieron en total. Tuvimos la suerte de tener un clima excelente, especialmente la agradable temperatura otoñal de Atlanta. El evento se llevó a cabo una vez más en el Olde Atlanta Clubhouse, y estamos agradecidos con José y Alina Battle por coordinar el uso del Clubhouse y ser generosos anfitriones de la reunión.
Como se hace todos los años, un puñado de estudiantes del grupo de estudiantes de Georgia Tech estuvo presente para asar el cerdo y ayudar a preparar y limpiar. Este año se les unieron, como en los últimos años, estudiantes del grupo de estudiantes de la Universidad de Miami. Estamos agradecidos con Ray y Natalie Cacicedo por coordinar y viajar con los estudiantes, así como con Gerry Portela, quien los acompañó. Los estudiantes fueron dirigidos por el congregante Lorenzo León, quien domina el arte de asar el cerdo. Como se hizo el año pasado, nos unimos con el congregante Ramiro Rodríguez y los estudiantes del grupo TAMU ACU a través de Zoom para compartir la camaradería. Los estudiantes de los distintos grupos pudieron conocerse entre sí.
Afortunadamente, nuestro director, el padre Jorge Luis Rojas, S.J., estuvo presente y ofreció la misa diaria para el grupo. El padre Rojas estuvo acompañado por el Dr. Manny Anton, presidente nacional, y Erik Vieira, administrador pastoral.
Durante la misa, un nuevo estudiante de primer año del grupo de estudiantes de Georgia Tech, Marcos García, leyó la primera lectura, y el congregante Neyton Baltodano leyó el Salmo responsorial.
Durante su homilía, el padre Rojas desafió a los Agrupados a colaborar entre sí en los Capítulos para fortalecer sus vínculos en el espíritu único de El Jefe y Maestro. Es a través de esta colaboración que la ACU crecerá como una sola comunidad. También desafió a los Agrupados a trabajar juntos en un espíritu de gratitud por las numerosas gracias que la ACU ha recibido a lo largo de los años. Estas gracias se extendieron a nuestros matrimonios, familias y amistades, y debemos permanecer conscientes de la fuente de estas gracias.
Manny Anton se basó en este mensaje y señaló los diversos grupos de formación que están en curso. Miami mantiene el crecimiento del grupo de estudiantes de la UM y recientemente lanzó el grupo de estudiantes en FIU. Miami también mantiene una reunión mensual del grupo de hombres en la Universidad de Florida en colaboración con el programa Catholic Gators Campus Ministry. El liderazgo de Miami ha colaborado con el Capítulo de Atlanta para ayudar a reclutar graduados de Belén que asisten a Georgia Tech. De manera similar, el Capítulo de Washington, D.C. lanzó formalmente el grupo de estudiantes de CUA por segundo año académico consecutivo. Continuamos colaborando con Ramiro Rodríguez para apoyar al grupo de estudiantes de la Universidad Texas A&M.
La comida y las bebidas fueron abundantes, gracias a la dedicación de numerosos voluntarios. Se sirvieron una variedad de platos tradicionales cubanos, incluidos arroz, frijoles, yuca, ensalada y pan. Todo esto fue seguido por algunos postres tradicionales cubanos, incluido flan y masa real de guayaba casera.
