Fr. Kyle Shinseki, S.J., @ UofM
Congregante, Fr. Kyle Shinseki, S.J., invited the ACU to lead a day of Lenten reflection to the Cristeros student group of the St. Mary Student Parish at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Fr. Kyle serves as pastor of the Parish and director of the campus ministry program for the University of Michigan. Our national president, Dr. Manny Anton, led a small team to the Parish this past weekend, March 21st to the 23rd, to lead the day of reflection. He was joined by our pastoral administrator, Erik Vieira, and aspirant Ricardo Cuevas, of the Young Professionals aspirantado in Miami. The day of reflection included, Mass, lunch, a reflection on the Prodigal Son, Holy Hour, and sharing. Fr. Kyle led the liturgical celebrations and heard confessions, and the team from the ACU led the reflection and the sharing. Approximately 25 students were in attendance for the event, including some from Miami. The students were welcoming and grateful for the event. Of those from Miami is Danny Gonzalez, pictured with Dr. Anton, a Belen alumnus from the Class of 2022. He is a junior at the University and studying engineering. We also met Sebastian Abisleiman, a PhD candidate in aerospace engineering. Sebastian completed high school at the School for Advanced Studies at the Miami-Dade College Wolfson Campus. Fr. Kyle has invited the ACU to return next year for a similar event. Fr. Kyle would like to establish a bridge between the ACU and the parish to connect new students from the ACU Chapters to the Parish and connect graduating students to the ACU. We look forward to continuing this relationship and assisting Fr. Kyle with his ministry.
Prior to entering the Jesuits, Fr. Kyle studied urban planning and business administration. He became Catholic as an undergraduate student while studying at M.I.T. He completed graduate studies at U.C.L.A. and Northwestern and worked in the non-profit and private sectors. Fr. Kyle passed to Congregante on December 8, 2001. Through his experience with the ACU, he found his calling to serve with the Jesuits. In 2009, he entered the Jesuit Novitiate in Berkley, Michigan as a member of the Chicago (now Chicago-Detroit) Province of the Jesuits. After his formation, including degrees in philosophy and theology, he was ordained in 2018 and is a member of the Midwest Jesuits.
