Day of Reflection for Married Couples
This past Sunday, August 11, 2024, the Miami Chapter hosted Congregante, Fr. Guiseppe Maria Siniscalchi, CFR, and 58 married couples at the Cosculluela Hall at Belen and at the Our Lady of Belen Chapel in Miami for a day of reflection, prayer, adoration, and renewal of vows. In attendance were couples within the ACU (15 couples) and outside the ACU - many young couples, some with infants in tow, one couple celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary, and another couple that is in an ACU Cana Group that has been active for 48 years.
The retreat opened by drawing from the Wedding Feast of Cana where Mary intercedes on behalf of the married couple and Jesus turned the jugs filled with water into wine, and doing the same, the couples were invited to offer their water (their marriages, their human hearts), for Jesus to transform into hearts like his, ever providing the new wine of his love into their marriages. Fr. Guiseppe also shared a series of reflections and talks. The couples then participated in additional marriage reflections, adoration accompanied with live music by ADORE Praise & Worship.
Some highlights from Father Giuseppe’s reflections include:
The founding and definition of marriage, the oldest institution on earth, for the good and well-being of each person and society
Understanding the complementary differences between men and women by God’s Design of love in marriage and the devil’s opposing efforts to disorder and destroy marriage
To focus on looking to where we are fallen, where we are broken, versus looking to what to fix in our spouse
The centrality of Jesus in the Eucharist, that the way forward is prayer in Christ
Trusting in God’s design of submitting and giving to one another as he did on the Cross, our way to fulfillment
Couples were asked to create the 10 commandments of marriage they would offer to their children and grandchildren
He encouraged all couples to commit to at least a half an hour in Eucharistic Adoration once a week
Our Director, Fr. Jorge Luis Rojas, S.J., was joined by our prior director, Fr. Christian A. Sáenz, S.J., and numerous priests to hear confession during the event, which took place during adoration in the Chapel. Meals were sponsored by the ACU and provided by Sage Kitchen at Belen Jesuit.
The day ended with a Family Mass at the Chapel, concluding with singing the Salve Regina to Our Lady. During the retreat participating couples were invited to learn more about the ACU. It was a spiritually enriching, invigorating, and joyful day for the Married Couples.
Fr. Guiseppe passed to Congregante on December 6, 1997. He subsequently discerned a vocation to the Franciscans and was ordained a priest in 2011. He currently serves at the St. Mary Friary in Newburgh, New York, working with the poor. We are very grateful for his friendship, his priesthood, his love for the ACU, and for sharing his time, gifts, and passion with us.

El pasado domingo 11 de agosto de 2024, el Capítulo de Miami recibió al congregante, P. Guiseppe Maria Siniscalchi, CFR, y a 58 parejas casadas en el Salón Cosculluela en Belén y en la Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Belén en Miami para un día de reflexión, oración, adoración y renovación de votos. Asistieron parejas dentro de la ACU (15 parejas) y fuera de la ACU: muchas parejas jóvenes, algunas con bebés a cuestas, una pareja que celebraba su 46 aniversario de bodas y otra pareja que está en un Grupo Caná de la ACU que ha estado activo durante 48 años.
El retiro se abrió con la inspiración de la Fiesta de las Bodas de Caná, donde María intercede en nombre de la pareja casada y Jesús convirtió las jarras llenas de agua en vino, y haciendo lo mismo, se invitó a las parejas a ofrecer su agua (sus matrimonios, sus corazones humanos), para que Jesús los transforme en corazones como el suyo, brindando siempre el vino nuevo de su amor en sus matrimonios. Guiseppe también compartió una serie de reflexiones y charlas. Las parejas participaron luego en reflexiones matrimoniales adicionales y adoración acompañada con música en vivo de ADORE Praise & Worship.
Algunos puntos destacados de las reflexiones del Padre Giuseppe incluyen:
La fundación y definición del matrimonio, la institución más antigua de la tierra, para el bien y el bienestar de cada persona y sociedad
Entender las diferencias complementarias entre hombres y mujeres por el Diseño de Dios del amor en el matrimonio y los esfuerzos opuestos del diablo para desordenar y destruir el matrimonio
Enfocarnos en mirar dónde hemos caído, dónde estamos rotos, en lugar de mirar qué arreglar en nuestro cónyuge
La centralidad de Jesús en la Eucaristía, que el camino a seguir es la oración en Cristo
Confiar en el diseño de Dios de someternos y darnos unos a otros como lo hizo en la Cruz, nuestro camino hacia la realización
Se pidió a las parejas que crearan los 10 mandamientos del matrimonio que ofrecerían a sus hijos y nietos
Animó a todas las parejas a comprometerse al menos media hora en Adoración Eucarística una vez a la semana
Nuestro Director, el P. Jorge Luis Rojas, S.J., estuvo acompañado por nuestro director anterior, el P. EspañolEl padre Christian A. Sáenz, S.J., y numerosos sacerdotes escucharon confesiones durante el evento, que tuvo lugar durante la adoración en la Capilla. Las comidas fueron patrocinadas por la ACU y proporcionadas por Sage Kitchen en Belen Jesuit.
El día terminó con una Misa familiar en la Capilla, que concluyó con el canto de la Salve Regina a Nuestra Señora. Durante el retiro, se invitó a las parejas participantes a aprender más sobre la ACU. Fue un día espiritualmente enriquecedor, vigorizante y alegre para los matrimonios.
El padre Guiseppe pasó a ser congregante el 6 de diciembre de 1997. Posteriormente, discernió una vocación franciscana y fue ordenado sacerdote en 2011. Actualmente sirve en el convento de Santa María en Newburgh, Nueva York, trabajando con los pobres. Estamos muy agradecidos por su amistad, su sacerdocio, su amor por la ACU y por compartir su tiempo, sus dones y su pasión con nosotros.
