Investing, a Catholic Moral Perspective, and the New Vatican Directives

Esteban Prellezo recently spoke to the ACU University of Miami student group about morality in investing. The talk was inspired by the Vatican's recent publishing of guidelines for investing in a document titled Mensuram Bonam (Latin for "good measure"). The new Vatican guidelines in many ways mirror those that have been in existence and promulgated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Both the Vatican and UCCB norms caution against investing in entities that sell morally objectionable products. On the flip side, the norms also promote investing in areas that promote the Common Good (Catechism of the Catholic Church ([nos. 1906-1909]), also known as impact investing.
