Esto Vir Group: Miami Chapter
The Esto Vir Group at the Miami Chapter held its formation meeting this past Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The presentation was led by Arturo Castelo, a senior at Belen, and Co-captain of the Crew Team. He presented on the Lenten season and the meaning of the ascetic practices during Lent. Arturo has committed to attend the University of Pennsylvania on a rowing scholarship and plans to study business and finance.
Arturo also addressed the Exodus 40 program, which members of the Group have historically undertaken during Lent. It entails a series of ascetic practices, including abstaining from various foods and drinks, such as desserts and sodas, as well as foregoing all electronic use except for essential purposes, a limitation on watching television, and fasting and meat abstinence on Wednesday in addition to Friday. The program also requires daily Mass or 20 minutes of daily prayer, and 20 minutes of intense exercise three times a week, among other things. Those that undertake the Exodus 40 program while in high school will often undertake the complete Exodus 90 program in college, which entails additional ascetic practices for the 90 days preceding Lent.
