Congregant Bishop Luis Del Castillo, S.J. turns 90!
Congratulations to Congregant Bishop Luis del Castillo, S.J. on his 90th birthday!
A native of Montevideo, Uruguay, he entered the novitiate for the Society of Jesus at the age of 18. He was ordained to the priesthood at age 31 and began his career in education which eventually led him to founding the Catholic University of Uruguay with enrollment reaching 10,000 students.
At the age of 53, the Pope appointed him Auxiliary Bishop for Montevideo.
He spent many years serving the Miami community and became an ACU Congregant in 2017. He directed countless ACU spiritual exercises for both men and women both in English and in Spanish and was instrumental in founding the ACU University of Miami Student Group in 2019.
He currently resides in Montevideo, Uruguay.
On the occasion of his birthday (see photo nearby [also the feast of Luigi Gonzaga, S.J.]) he celebrated Mass “para dar gracias a todas las personas que me acompañaron, ayudaron, educaron, formaron y toleraron durante noventa años.” (“in thanksgiving for all those who accompanied, helped, educated, formed, and tolerated [me] over ninety years”).
