ACU Aspirant Mike Wood spoke about discernment at our Business Lunch
The Agrupación’s Business Lunch speaker was Aspirant Mike Wood. Mike spoke about Ignatian discernment in personal and professional life.
Mike spent almost ten years in the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), where he was formed in Ignatian prayer and the Spiritual Exercises. He now serves as head of HR for GEMRT in Miami and previously worked with Inktel, a call center firm. Mike is married with two children.
In his talk, Mike stressed that discernment is about choosing among multiple good options, never among immoral or illegal ones, which cannot be truly discerned. When we face several legitimate paths in our personal lives or our work, Ignatian discernment can help aid us in our decision making.
He invited us to pay attention to interior movements before God—consolation (peace, clarity, rightness) and desolation (restlessness, confusion, heaviness)—within the broader context of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. Over time, this practice helps us see what draws us closer to God, and what pulls us away, helping shape our decisions.
The Agrupación business lunch is organized by invitation for early and mid career professionals. The lunch brings together Agrupados and other invited professionals from a variety of industries to hear short compelling talks on a variety of topics and introduce aspects of the Agrupacion.
The lunches are hosted by Marty Perez, Manny Anton, and other Congregantes dedicated to the apostolate. Working Agrupados are encouraged to suggest colleagues and friends that might be candidates to attend the lunch.
